  As a confused and frustrated teen I remember saying to my mum that it would be really handy if something obvious happened to people (like they changed to a purple colour) when you were nearby if they liked you. You know, to stop "does he really like me?" the guess-work.She pointed out that in fact that could lead to some awkward situations! At the time I didn't really get it, but now I can see how that could be very detrimental to various relationships!! Oh well, it seemed like a great idea when I was young. And this has nothing to do with the original post, sorry, just seemed like the question had been answered and the talk of colour reminded me....

  The red messages are what used to be the highest level of membership, Platinum. The bar has been raised now with the new highest level of membership level, Diamonds, which are the dark grey coloured messages.
