Honesty is refreshing and important. Thank you. And sorry to hear that happened to you. Your best bet is to act like everyone you sleep with has something no matter how confident they are and use protection, get tested every 6 months. Never place responsibility for your health in someone else's hands, especially if it's a casual set up. Some factoids - HIV is on the decline in all identified populations EXCEPT heterosexuals (and one other which I can't remember now). Hep C treatment is now PBS covered, minimal side effects and best of all now CURABLE within a matter of months. - Posted from rhpmobile

I am tested regularly. There are people that I know who are lazy and refuse to get tested, even if it don't cost them a cent.

Isnt safe....you could be with someone who got the all clear on Friday, slept with someone with an STI on Saturday then shagged you on Sunday. You just dont know. And people lie. Its not worth it.

If your a regular player or swinger you should get tested every 3 mths perhaps more if you have lots of sexual Contact with others. It’s harder for men to get STIs so perhaps OP if you had used a condom that wouldn’t have happened? Maybe. Doing the ring around is fun.... I had to do it once. Was teased by my BF and a few other partners. Even my GP Joked with me that I’d been a naughty girl. Ha! Pretty sure I know who to blame... dropped that group quick smart. If you’re a swinger and never had an STI... well you’re not rooting enough. Or so I have been told. 😬

I wonder how many people use dental dams and condoms for oral sex? You can get genital herpes via oral sex. Most people are carriers, although not all are affected. Women are more likely to be affected by sti's than men. That's why we have very few playmates. It's a numbers game and you're kidding yourself that you're not playing Russian roullette. - Posted from rhpmobile

Last tested two weeks ago. All clear. My body is immune to hep b. Safe sex always. Condoms for penetration always. Only way to go, unless both partners wait 3 months, protected sex for at least 3 months, then get tested together. With no unprotected flings on the side in that 3 months. - Posted from rhpmobile

Condoms do not protect you from Genital Herpes, lm proof of that, cells shed and as men's balls are also not covered with condoms, cells can transfer easily. Dental dams do work to an extent however a cold sore on your lips can also carry cells to the genitals during oral, then bingo! Men can use silicone undies and condoms when having intimate contact in this area, but unless your man is man enough to use this method, which many don't then treat them all as having HSV unless you know their history well or they are honest. As to Her C, yes there is a vaccine, but it does not cure you if you have this STD, it does however prevent the spread of it. The clinic l go to informed me recently that Gonorhea and Syphilis is on the rise again. These two are more insidious that HIV will be, so get tested. Would love to see more forum subjects cover topics such as this subject, don't think it can't possibly happen to you. The person l trusted the most, my husband, passed the gift of herpes on to me, lt was a shock and from that moment on, it taught me to trust very few. I was only 24yo at the time, so a lifetime of educating myself about all STDs has helped me move onto other relationships and to my knowledge l have not passed it on to anyone else. STDs are not all that hard to deal with in you are informed and prepared and if you're kinky enough to cover yourself in plastic, you can have some kinky fun. LOL

IMO, Absolutely not. You can not "out" (name and shame) a person "you know".It is stressful enough knowing one has an STD, but to "publicly" out them is not cool. You can not have discussions with anyone about another person's medical history, without them and they must agree. It is an invasion of privacy. Yes, that person has a duty to disclose "only" to those they are having sex with. However, if you are not having sex with them, it is an absolute NO, NO. Would you like it done to you? If it bothers you that much (rather than out them), why don't you have a matured adult conversation with them? Ms Foxy

Just to clarify a comment posted earlier, there is no vaccine for Hep C, but there are now effective cures for Hep C. I'm posting this info to follow because there has been significant change in public health policy and clinical approach to Hep C treatment and prevention. Hep C never had the same shock value as HIV, but has had a devastating effect world wide. It is far more easily transmitted than HIV, and more people are carrying the virus in Australia than HIV - nearly 10 times as many. In public health terms, the most effective prevention long term is to reduce the number of people chronically infected. Until relatively recently, Hep C treatments were interferon based and only had an approximate cure rate of 50% for certain strains of the virus. They required 6 to 12 months of intensive treatment, and compliance to treatment was low because the duration and side effects were such a burden. Critically, many of the people infected were intravenous drug users who were not well engaged with health care. The latest treatments using direct acting antivirals have a shorter course, have far less burdensome side effects, and can completely cure Hep C in approximately 95% of people. These are now subsidised under the PBS and offer the best chance we now have of eliminating Hep C as a widespread public health problem. Some worthwhile reading for those interested: https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/hepatitis-c https://www.hepatitisaustralia.com/hep-c-treatment https://static1.squarespace.com/static/50ff0804e4b007d5a9abe0a5/t/5bac12e7104c7b0f64e700c5/1538003692522/Australian+recommendations+for+the+management+hepatitis+C+virus+infection+-+a+consensus+statement+FINAL+Sep+2018.pdf - extensive epidemiological statistics and background information which has driven policy changes.

I agree you can’t name and shame however this is where it gets grey. From a legal point of view you can be subject to criminal law if you fail to disclose a STI before engaging in sexual activity and pass it on in some states. NSW is different as by law you no longer have to inform your sexual partner of a notifiable disease as long as you take reasonable protection measures which is pretty average if you ask me. So just be aware if proven you’ve knowingly passed on an STI you could end up having criminal charges laid against you.

You have to tell people upfront. Theres no cure, its a lifelong thing. A male friend was at a swinger party where he saw 2 people he knew that have herpes, and they were playing. He refrained from playing with anyone that evening. If condoms dont work then why go to parties where you are going to infect others? Some people put sex ahead of everything else.

Quoting 'nightingale8'Your best bet is to act like everyone you sleep with has something no matter how confident they are and use protection, get tested every 6 months. Never place responsibility for your health in someone else's hands, especially if it's a casual set up. Though personally I choose to get tested more often than that. And indeed great news about the new generation Hep C treatments! Hep C is indeed more easily transmitted than HIV, though I think it's worth noting that unlike HIV this is almost always through blood-to-blood contact (The hepatitis C virus is about 10 times more concentrated in blood than HIV).Hep C is rarely found in semen.

I have a friend, a builder who about 10 yrs ago sliced through his leg with a circular saw. Taken to freo hospital, required a transfusion and contracted Hep C.He didn't know about it until he had a blood test some time later, and the first i knew about it was when he had a bad crash with me at Kowanyama, and required a RFD transport to cairns base hospital for a huge gash to his calf. He said to the nurse at Kowanyama i have Hep C. And yes, i think he was getting treatment for maybe 2 yrs??Haven't seen him for awhile now as life kinda gets in the way sometimes, and he drives interstate trucks. But it'll give me a good excuse to give him a call
