Shaver Rash/Ingrown Hairs?

July 22 2010

ok i seen a comment in a topic about pics and this question begs to be asked Guys and Galls here please answer as most of us here either shave or wax (laser for the richer) how do you all deal with the little pimples, ingrown Hairs or shaver rash? i have noticed (and ask a few girl i know) that most girl's do absolutely nothing and the shaved bits always look great. But i shave certain parts as well and always end up with marks of some sort and i must admit i don't like the look of them and would like to know how people get that perfect skin look after having a shave or wax, i tried moisturizer with little effect

It is best to wax, leaves the skin smooth and soft... Always exfoliate before and after waxing, to prevent ingrown hairs shave after waxing... Have a great weekend...

Tea tree oil. Eiher the oil (my prefrence) or a cream based on it. Feels good and personally I like the smell too. Kisses Focus

exfoliating every morning makes a huge difference, just get those gloves or something similar and scrub away and you'll usually be fine.

Doesn't matter if you shave or wax the hair off your bod...eventually you will end up with a rash if you don't address the two main things that cause problems:Exfoliation- Help the hair break through the skin when it grows back. Exfoliating will remove the dead skin cells and debris from your skin, leaving it smoother and finer...so the little prickles can just pop out minus the pain and redness, and you don't end up shaving the tops of your pores off next time around. *OUCH* Remember bacteria love warm, moist conditions.Bacteria- If you shave, use rather hot water and a clean razor, and if you have a particularly bad time with ingrown hairs or a rash, maybe look at a topical antibiotic cream to kill the bacteria that is causing the infected pores (red bumps.). I have found that some of the more gentle anti-acne washes do the trick also (like Biore )...just wash the area to be depilated following the shave and rinse well. ...well...that was a long post. lol.Good luck.-Kitteh

Well, what worked for me was buying more expensive razors....no rash I also use liquid soap... but dont know if that makes any difference ?? Dont just pass over the hair once, run the razor over the hair with one hand and run the other hand over it in the opposite direction, you should feel any prickles and then be able to get rid of them... After a trip to the Doctors, it was his advise Hair removal creams are preferred over shaving.

the only downside to gels and creams is the long wait between uses the recommend 6 weeks worth of growth so there is enuff hair there to work on

No not Gin or Vodka, Aftershave or similar. Phisohex or medicated wipes to rid that freshly plucked chicken look!

I am fortunately not a very hairy person... i never have to shave my legs..i have sparse hair that is blonde and very hard to see... when i shave my privates... i always shave with the lay of the hair.. not against. i have found that works really well as i have never had a rash or ingrown hairs.. you might not get a close shave as you would shaving against the hair.. but still looks good and feels smooth..hope that helps shelly x

I am have been shaving for many years, i find shaving dry is the best, yes i know it sounds crazy. But use a very good razor, i use a Gillette Mach 3. i recently used a two blade and got the uncomfortable prickly feeling etcWith the 3 blade you can go against the hair and all good. nice and smooth with no ingrown hairs or rashes.Give it a try. I cant talk about waxing - haven't tried that yet but if someone want to help me out :)

i once did a home wax,big mistake, loads of infected ingrown hairs was the result...ouch so i was told to get a loufa and some lime and tea tree oil body wash,by a beautician, and give my hooha a good scrub with that, it did the trick. So now when ever i get a wax done,i wait a few days and then use the loufa and body wash to keep the nasty ingrown hairs from appearing. For that nice smooth feeling after shaving I shave with conditioner, it helps to keep skin soft. And always use a loofah 2 to 3 days after shaving

Luca's Paw Paw Ointment, which is also good for tattoos. Acne face scrubs with little exfoliating beads are good too. I wish I had discovered these earlier though - would've saved a bit of uncomfortableness and scaring.

Okay, I think I've discovered the best way to avoid the ingrowns, the pimples, the redness and soreness! (For those that get waxes done)1. Before the beautician applies the wax get her to whack some baby powder all over your v-jay-jay, that way the wax only grabs hold of the hair and not your skin!2. Apply heaps of antiseptic cream. The one I have I found in the baby cream isle of the chemist. It's also an anaesthtic so it numbs the soreness and anti-inflammatory so it takes the redness out too.3. Exfoliate. Exfoliate. Exfoliate.4. Get regular waxes.
