Non binary does not mean I am Trans personally

This topic is not intended to ensue into a debate, rather a space to express the difference for me personally between non binary and trans. I fall under the Q (Queer) in the alphabet soup. I identify as non binary afab. For me non binary means I embrace both my masculine and feminine. I do not need to have a dick to be masculine. Masculinity is far more than having a dick. I have studied now for a few years about masculinity and femininity. Read thousands of articles, watched a lot of talks, had many conversations and really had to heal a lot of my own wounding from the patriarch and matriarch. This isn't always an easy life at all but it gives me insight into why men and women have many difficulties so that's a plus sometimes. Personally I believe in setting an example for positive masculinity. For eg: it's not shameful at all for a man to cry - that's a good thing. Not every man should stuff down their emotions and feelings. I support positive femininity as well - for e.g - it is not shameful to not want to bear children. Not every woman wants to have a child. Me being non binary means I made the personal choice to learn about masculinity and femininity because it's a part of me and I need to understand myself first and foremost. To not understand myself at all was far more painful. I now talk about it openly given the right space and circumstances. I feel that non binary is still very much misunderstood. For the most part though I just love my life. The world still has a long way to go in understanding. I realise people are going to have their opinions but I live it every day so I feel I am qualified to challenge these things. However it is not the point of my post. This is purely to set some misconceptions and perceptions straight and an opportunity to understand my experience as a non binary person

Not sure if there is a misconception that "non binary people are trans" at all. Admittedly, its not a topic I personally give much thought to. I have always subscribed to the idea that, like you said, non binary people are just more across their own masculine and feminine spheres.

I'd have to agree with Feisty that the misconception is that big. Non binary covers a lot of "labels" non binary being a label itself. I feel many could go under the term non binary as so many out there embrace the feminine and masculine sides of themselves. But for me most of these terms are just psycho babble and just put individuals into boxes. Which sadly is the popular and trending way of the world. I like the old days when you knew someone was different in some way but it made no difference and there were no labels just people who were different to you

Interesting topic and although I somewhat dispose classifying everything it is still interesting to think about. I have never thought of myself as non binary but have always been very much in touch with my feminine side my whole life but have always considered myself male. I’m intrigued and confused with this classification though, is non binary essentially bisexual as you see no difference in being attracted to different sexes? Can you be non binary but only gay or heterosexual?

At the end of the day, life is life and no one has the right to tell you how to live yours. It's honestly that simple. Some people need to stick to their own lane and not try to poke their nose into anyone else's business. Take care of your own shit before you try to rearrange someone else's.

Great engagement. I'm going to cease engaging now. I originally wrote the post to just express something important to me and my thoughts about it. I feel I don't really have much more to contribute as I said what I needed and have said enough to those that have engaged. Of course feel free to keep the discussion going if you like. ✌️

Seems society always needs a label for everything. There is no label that covers my description. Ive even giving up trying to label myself. It can vary day to day. The older l get, the easier it gets to be at piece with myself without the label. You just need to be at peace with yourself to even try to be at piece with others. Trouble is everyones description of the "label" varies and it will be a constant head fuck to conform to someones expectations and will tear at you. Be comfortable in your skin. Give everyone some leeway in their interactions with you but always be you and dont accept their shit. Put you first. Love you and the rest may follow.
