Govt Internet blocking worry

January 16 2010

To all in RHP This post came from another website. The labor govt are close the being commies the pricks! I have replaced the actual web address with xxx.xxx . Lets keep australia free. Mars xxx has been following the furor over Australia's planned Web Censorship bill since the very beginning. With cruising alerts, and email broadcasts, I've tried to make sure you're all aware of the most recent developments. Now, with the recent announcement of a "successful" test run of their filtering software, we can see that the reality is swiftly approaching. I've put together this quick info list to make sure you're better informed and prepared. What's Going On? When Will This Happen? Will I Still Be Able to Visit Squirt? What Can I do to Stop this from Happening? Censordyne What's Going On? The Australian Labour government has introduced the idea of a state imposed "web filter", with the premise of "protecting the children". This filter will block all sites labled "RC", or "Refused Classification". "RC" is an umbrella classification for adult, controversial AND illegal material. This can mean web sites that are pornographic, violent video games or even subjects like euthanasia which are legal to visit, own and discuss. However, it also includes materials that sexually exploit children which are illegal. Because all these items are collapsed together, using such a list is highly problematic, and has the effect of making all items with the "RC" classification effectively illegal material. An early version of the list can be seen here. This list includes Squirt, and you will NOT be able to access the site. When Will This Happen? It was only recently announced that the government had just successfully completed a trial run, of their web censoring software. They now plan to go ahead with the next step, which will be to pass legislation early this year making the web filters law. However, with the impending election, should the legislation pass, the government will delay it's enactment until 12 months later. This way it will have little impact on impending elections, and ensure Labour is re-elected. I want to ensure that you are able to continue to access Squirt.org, despite these government filters. So, with that in mind, here's a few ways to get around any type of web filter (Info courtesy of DiamondCS.com/au): Modify the URL. Most filters block specific url's, so entering altered URLs will often allow you to access the site. You can do this by including "Http://" before the "www", or removing it, or adding a "/" after the site name, or searching for a specific page within the site. For a site like xxx, you could also try accessing via the mobile version of xxx which uses the URLhttp://m.xxx Cached pages. Many web search engines, such as google and yahoo cache pages on their own servers of web sites. Since these pages are on servers hosted by the search engine, they will not be subject to government filtering. Web Interface. Services like Anonymouse.org allow users to anonymously surf the internet using a "proxy" server from another country. Your ISP will only see the IP address ofAnonymouse, and will not be able to read any of the sites you visit through it. Software. Software applications, such as Anonymizer can be installed on your computer and will allow you to directly interface with their servers outside of Australia, and use their servers to reach the web sites that would have been blocked by your ISP. Proxy Servers. This is the very basic method of anonymous web surfing and is built into almost every web browser. It's a feature where you can enter the IP addresses of a proxy server outside your country (there are thousands of lists of proxy servers on google and other search engines) into your browser settings. This allows you to connect directly with the proxy server, and through it, surf the web. Your ISP only reads that you've visited the proxy server, and not what the proxy server itself visited. With this many ways around web filtering, it's no wonder most experts dismiss it as an ineffective tool for "crime prevention". What Can I do to Stop this from Happening? There's no guarantee that this legislation will pass, and to ensure it never does, many concerned Australians have begun websites of their own to try and ensure this legislation never sees the light of day. Within these web sites you'll find information and form letters for mailing your local representative, or even Stephen Conroy himself. You'll find upcoming protests and other means of spreading the word about the undecomocratic nature of Labour's plans. Get informed, and get active, and prevent this undemocratic bill from every passing. Get Up! It is saddening that this may come to pass...but if you want to spread the word, then please, edit this wall of text. It really is too hard on the eyes and will only garner a "Meh" instead of an eye opening "WTF, Governments!"

Though unfortunately a google search will bring up the naughty talk here for all to see. RHP needs their own internal forum search facility restricted to people who have username and password access. Now the politicians are notorious for stuffing things up... I'm surprised they don't wear diapers for the amount of shit decision making. They are also notorious for not keeping their promises. They spend more time slagging each other and patting their own backs than dealing with the problems at hand. They spend a fortune on advisers to tell them what they want to hear. Makes you wonder what they employ the public servants for? Some state governments have a whole department for media manipulation... recording every word the other party says and then devising a spin to turn the tables... all at the tax payers expense. Not to mention world trips and no end of lurks and perks. If the average person performed as badly they would be made redundant based on incompetence... but instead they get pay rises and the best superannuation scheme available. Then there's the job for the boys after they leave parliament...

Back in March 2009, The NSW state government, headed by The "Honourable" Michael Daley (Roads minister) attempted to impose a set of legislation known as VSI-50. The VSI-50 regulations would prevent any lowering or raising of any vehicle of more than 50mm. ANY height mods (larger tryes, suspension mods, lift/drop blocks etc) would have to be engineered.Good in theory (well, to polititions and in the eyes of 'Mum + Dad' voters). but what that did was prevent people like builders, plumbers and tradesmen putting heavy duty suspension in place to assist with loads, farmes from raising vehicles for clearance to get around their own farm, and responsible daily drivers that raced their road cars on weekends from improving handling. Along with many, many other practical apllications. For me, it was 4wd related, and anyone that knows anything about 4wding will know that standard suspension will get you nowhere, and 50mm is NOTHING. My truck is 6 inches higher than standard, and is quite mild in comparison to many. What the government did though, was announce these changes with 2 weeks notice, which happened to coincide with the ministers holidays (The press release was sent out the day he left), and with NO consultation with 4wd groups, engineers, aftermarket industry heads, EVEN THE RTA!!!This censorship crap rings bells over and over and is giving me deja-vu. I was on holidays in that 2 week period and spent pretty much the whole time on the phone, email, internet trying to get answers and get the word out. It got to a point where his office was hanging up on anyone that mentioned VSI-50 - See, that's how much our government cares for the people that elected them. Eventually it was put on hold, but the Minister is still trying to push it through under blankets. The difference is that Australia has known about this for a couple of years now. and unfortunately the Australian way is to sit back and take it like a bunch of bitches, hence the government think they can nanny us with every aspect of our lives.People need to know the full implications of something like this, and exactly how it will affect everyone in EVERY WAY. It's not just porn, it's not just bomb-making, it's going to limit people to their kids' school website and anything ending in .gov.auAnd from then, people need to stand up and show the government that they won't let them bend us all over and ass fuck us. So it's all good to whinge and bitch on a forum, but you have to write letters, direct emails, bombard the offices with phone calls and faxes and make the biggest song and dance you ever have. Or this thread is completely useless.Your local member is just that, YOUR local member. Start there, it's their job to work for you. Here's a bunch of contacts. Now when you email your letter, be sure to cc it to all the other members, and make the CC visible. They need to know that you're not just sending a random email to one person. This is the opposition to the sceme. it's their parliamentary duty to oppose everything they say etc etcHon Tony Smith MP, Shadow Minister for Broadband, Communications & the Digital Economy.PO Box 6022 House of Representatives Parliament House Canberra ACT 2600 Tel: (02) 6277 4284 Fax: (02) 6277 8439 Email: [email protected] Senator Steve Fielding, Family First Senator.Toll free (VIC): 1300 736 017 Tel: (03) 9802 1922 Fax: (03) 9802 8236 Email: [email protected] //';l[1]='a';l[2]='/';l[3]='';l[32]='\"';l[33]=' 117';l[34]=' 97';l[35]=' 46';l[36]=' 118';l[37]=' 111';l[38]=' 103';l[39]=' 46';l[40]=' 104';l[41]=' 112';l[42]=' 97';l[43]=' 64';l[44]=' 103';l[45]=' 110';l[46]=' 105';l[47]=' 100';l[48]=' 108';l[49]=' 101';l[50]=' 105';l[51]=' 102';l[52]=' 46';l[53]=' 114';l[54]=' 111';l[55]=' 116';l[56]=' 97';l[57]=' 110';l[58]=' 101';l[59]=' 115';l[60]=':';l[61]='o';l[62]='t';l[63]='l';l[64]='i';l[65]='a';l[66]='m';l[67]='\"';l[68]='=';l[69]='f';l[70]='e';l[71]='r';l[72]='h';l[73]='a ';l[74]='= 0; i=i-1){ if (l[i].substring(0, 1) == ' ') output += "&#"+unescape(l[i].substring(1))+";"; else output += unescape(l[i]); } document.getElementById('eeEncEmail_godnjRybWM').innerHTML = output; //]]> 255 Blackburn Road, Mount Waverley, VIC 3149 Parliament Contact: Tel: (02) 6277 3711 Fax: (02) 6277 5713 Senator Nick Xenophon, Independent Senator.By email: [email protected] phone: 08 8232 1144By Fax: 08 8232 3744By mail: Level 2, 31 Ebenezer Place, Adelaide 5000 Senator Scott Ludlam, Australian Greens' spokesperson for Broadband, Communications & the Digital Economy.National Office, Australian Greens GPO Box 1108 Canberra ACT 2601 Ph: 02 6140-3217 (in Canberra) or 1800 017 011 Fax: 02 6247-6455 [email protected] those that are trying to implement this lunacy....Senator Stephen Conroy Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Level 4, 4 Treasury Place Melbourne Vic 3002 (03) 9650 1188And contact your ISP, it's going to affect them just as much as it will us....*breathe*
