Forum Lurker

May 02 2012

I need help. There I have said it. I am a forum lurker. I read them all: couples corner; girls ask and Hot Topics. Savoring each juicy bit. as I go clicking on the headlines. Is there a cure. It's so embarrasing hiding under my doona with my lap top in my hands. I have tried going cold turkey but slowly i sneak back reading them all. I guess this means I have outed myself. The whole of Austarlia will know about me now. Oh bugger I have sort of cum out of of the closet. Oh my god I love the forums. I cant give up my addiction. Dear Aunty Forum can you offer any couseling . Des

Dear Des, It has come to my attention that many RHP members suffer from your strange addiction.Unfortunately there is no known cure. However I do recommend that you bring the laptop from under those covers, and put into practice what you have learnt here,eg,How to make a woman squirt,The art of frotting,How to construct a profile,Bukkake,Devolping a foot fetish,Exploring your kinksetc. While not a cure exactly, this lot should keep you busy enough, so that your time for the forums will be limited. Of course, you will need to come back to learn more after you have mastered that lot,and to seek further advice and instruction before your wife leaves you for a man or woman who doesnt own a pc.   xHugs Dr.H.

Say something controversial - like expressing a preference for a particular body type, hair colour or profession for example. The resulting flame war has been known to lead to a complete cure for some addicts. Not only is it a traumatic process, but would you really want to be cured and spend your days checking out recipes on Facebook or funny cats on Youtube? I think not.Embrace your addiction I say. You've taken the first step now, welcome aboard!Mr C

Many people who suffer this particular and peculiar addiction just dont want to be cured. We ......Oooops I mean THEY....are happy to indulge in this favourite activity and see no harm in it at all. I can see from your profile that you are one half of a couple. There is nothing like shared addictions to bring a relationship closer together and my advice is that you can each be each others support person as you enjoy and embrace all that the forums have to offer. I agree with the others though, do not hide this addiction under the bed covers..be proud..be open and free. Just so long as you are wearing a spiderman outfit when you do cum out of the closet all is good. . PS. is that a corn cob in your pants or are you just happy to be here?

...a twelve step program but remember, recovery is only for quitters! Hell yes I'm powerless and my life was totally unmanageable before I even made my first post...and as for sanity, I enjoy my version of it or the lack thereof and just along for the ride anyway. So much for the first two steps and congratulations...embracing you addictions and enjoying them simplifies your life. Right about here is where I took my last step and realized that reality is the only obstacle to happiness. | I hope the forum police take you into custody and read the short form of the Miranda...you do not have the right to remain silent unless you want to and something you say may be held against you in close quarters if you get lucky. After that, forget it...some will have handcuffs, some will have ropes and some will just lead you along quietly with happy smile on both your faces. The best rules are no rules and you don't need an lawyer for that...although there are a couple of hot ones here that you just might want to meet to take your deposition. | Welcome aboard...and come on all you other lurkers, jump on in, these folks need your support. Most of all, enjoy the journey...this is no dress rehearsal and we've only got one shot. | Nice to see new faces...and everything else in your profile too.

The Cyber Disorders section includes disorders that have a dependency upon cyber existence as the predominant feature. The section is divided into three parts. The first part describes e-mail episodes that serve as the building blocks for the disorder diagnoses. The second part describes the Cyber Disorders themselves. The criteria sets for most of the Cyber Disorders require the presence or absence of the e-mail episodes described in the first part of the section. The third part includes the specifiers that describe either the most recent e-mail episode, or the course of recurrent episodes. The Cyber Disorders are divided into Posting Disorders, Flaming Disorders and CC Disorders. The Posting Disorders (i.e. Lurking Disorder, Chronic Posting Disorder and Posting Disorder not Otherwise Specified) are distinguished from the Flaming Disorders by the fact that there is no history of ever having posted a Flame, or Flame-with-Apology. CC Disorders (CC-All Disorder and Spam Disorder) may include episodes of Chronic Posting, Flames, and/or Flame-With-Apologies but can be distinguished by the number of addressees. Lurking Disorder is characterized by one or more episodes of lurking (i.e. at least two weeks of lurking or loss of interest in answering mail accompanied by at least four additional symptoms of Lurking including high on-line time balances, walking away from the computer while logged on, composing posts and deleting them without sending them, etc.) Chronic Posting Disorder is characterized by at least 4 weeks of posting to a newsgroup or listserv more days than not, accompanied by additional Cyber symptoms such as checking mail several times per day, posts in which the content is shorter than the message header or sig, and messages of extreme anxiety when list volume drops. Posting Disorder not Otherwise Specified is included for coding disorders with posting features that do not meet the criteria for Lurking Disorder or Chronic Posting Disorder. Flaming Disorder is characterized by one or more episodes of hot-tempered posts, usually posted within seconds of receiving the 'trigger' message, but can be distinguished from the Flame-With-Apology in that the sender has a sincere belief that he/she is 100% correct and morally entitled to his/her feelings of outrage. Flaming Disorder is often accompanied by Chronic Posting Disorder. Flame-With-Apology Disorder is a milder form of the Flaming Disorder, in which the poster sincerely apologizes for the first portion of the message and yet sends it anyway. A variation of Flame-With-Apology exists in which posters staunchly defend their position for 3 to 4 days, then abruptly back down and revert to Chronic Posting or Lurking. The specifiers described in the third part of the section are provided to increase diagnostic specificity, create more homogeneous subgroups, assist in treatment selection, and improve the prediction of prognosis. Some of the specifiers describe the current or most recent episode (i.e. Pine, Elm, Anonymous, With Humorous Features, and With Uncomplicated Internet Access).

Complete abstinence (er, from the forum) was the only thing that did it for me. And as you can see I've relapsed. It was a knowing relapse though, so a willing self-destruction.
