Blew-ray...

August 20 2013

Upon hearing some comments about men developing a warped sense of reality due to watching unrealistic porn, it has made me wonder. Do other movies, and lets not forget literature also, warp our personal sense of reality? I do realise that how we collect and interpret our own sense data is unique to our own brain, but can fiction influence our personality? Do we start to think that we can be baddest muthafucka in valley because some "ordinary guy" took on an entire drug cartel and won? I've been to enough Muay Thai nights here where testicle size almost doubles and amount of street fights won increases also to give further merit to my question. Even though the craziest set of circumstances have you kept you apart, at the end of the day, do you always get your man? Is it a fairly normal occurrence for a wealthy and dashing gentleman to fall deeply in love with an "ugly duckling" with a fairly "normal"? With more people seeming to want to escape from a reality that may not be as illustrious as others portrayed in film and in books, can it lead to cravings and disappointment? Or am I just over thinking shit like normal and should go buy a tv? Haha

how gullible you are !Fiction can be inspiring though, science fiction is made into reality everyday in the market place, particularly electronics.Reality shows are testimony to truth being stranger than fiction.

I am a practical and realistic person, so whilst for me, entertainment does not distort reality, I do see how it does and can effect others, especially when alcohol is involved. It is not realistic to think you can 'fuck like a porn star', fight like a professional Muay Thai boxer, as that is their occupation, something that person has worked very hard to achieve. To believe that millionaire would choose to sweep an ugly duckling off her feet (well, that may not be true, look at Camilla Parker Bowles), again is not realistic, however, is not completely out of the question, as chemistry and connection can be a strange thing sometimes. So to sum up, I like to remain in my practical, realistic world and work with what I have in front of me, rather than living in a world of fantasy and dreams.

It's amazing that someone can wake up one day and think to themselves "what am I going to do today ? I know ! I'll go shoot someone who I don't know" Humans disgust me all too often. Glenn xo

Simple answer, GavinMcSparkles - TV, literature and the rest of the entertainment industry do all of that because it will sell. Us average folk turn to these resources to escape from the disappointment of reality - how would you feel if all pornography had premature ejaculations, women with scarring on their bodies or people with disabilities? Or the drug cartel shot the good guy end of story, Rapunzel didn't get rescued and died in her tower from starvation, or the entrepreneur who started off with a budding idea failed miserably? But the thing is, these things give people dreams and I think without a warped sense of 'what may be' and some unrealistic desires we would all be completely miserable knowing that there was nothing better than what we have been given.

life imitate art?..well for me it does...I walked along the cobb in Lyme Regis, just like Meryl in the French Lieutenant'sWoman,I climbed Hanging Rock but couldn't find Miranda,I boiled a billy just like Henry Lawson,I hiked along the Bogong High Plains looking for the Man,I sat in a deck chair on the Lido in Venice ,but death didn't find me,I walked over the Bridge of Sighs,I ...oh never mind, have to go finish my book.

50zkool, asking open questions makes me gullible? Um......Yep. I was in no way pontificating on the subject, but wanting to know others opinions to give me all different sides of the story to make up my own mind. And you are right, science fiction sure has come to fruition......just ask L. Ron Hubbard!

This may indeed surprise you and call bullshit if you want but the porn I watch is usually amateur porn, not the bleached buttholes and 12inch cocks in main stream porn but real people, who um, look real. There is a great difference between hope and unrealistic fantasy. If some guy watches a movie where another guy takes out an entire guerrilla army, and then tries to do exactly what the guy that gave him hope in the movie did, he'll end up dead. If I was to watch a documentary on say, Rosa Parks, that would give me hope and what she has done for humanity, any human could do if they so wished. Movies, literature and the other arts are great entertainment, but that's all they are. I'd rather draw my hope from real life stories not some marketing ploy.

I think it is self evident that it did, does and will continue to "effect our personal sense of reality" and the corresponding "cravings and disappointment" Of course reality can mean different things. Fundamental reality is not being changed, things like the laws of physics and chemistry- but our interpretation and acceptance of them is... The earth was flat and now it is spherical by the same standard ... being the most widely accepted common view of what constitutes truth and 'reality'So we'll never be able to perform a clip change during a slow-mo forward triple somersault, if enough individual perceptions are changed we may one day wake to find that 70% of all men suffer from an "ism" causing them to be unable to maintain constant and vigorous intercourse for 4 hrs straight. Luckily there will be readily available medication to overcome this disaster and everyone will be as good as 'normal'

Asking questions is not gullible. Believing and living out urban mythology is. As per your hypotheticals. - Posted from rhpmobile

Yeah go buy a T.V. (weapon of mass deception) and put your brain in neutral so the the crap bombarded at you via the cathode nipple turns you into a paranoid believer in all that will be radiated at you. Like most people who watch it.
