Honestly, I can appreciate the talent, but don't like her music. Seems like a cool chick, but other than that I can't say I'd agree OP

Loved her in the Saphires and in Bran Nue Day. What a marvelous voice. I hear that she's lovely too. I thought she was great on Idol, it's been great watching her grow up. Very cute too...

in Alice Springs (? I think) for the Voice. I knew she was an untapped talent then. I did get a bit discouraged by her song 'Burn'. The line "I need a doctor cause this is starting t burn" was a bit of a worry ... I kept thinking that they've got a cream for that ...

Jess has never done anything for me, too "little girlish" innocent looking. Then..........the sexy black dress and sleek hair on The Voice. She looked HOT

type in 'Jessica Mauboy' and find her interview on the Ellen Degen Show. (dont know how to spell ellens last name ) If Jess didnt do us and her people proud I'll stand rooting.... while you're in there ' find her original audition for 'Idol ' and you will see how far she's come....

Not really the type of music I listen to but will agree that she has a pretty good voice and has done a great job of building a career since being on idol.

I've lost all interest in her work since then though and constantly complain, when I see her performing, at the direction her singing career was taken. She was only 17 at the time of competing on Idol and I don't think her talent has been the focus since then but rather her sexuality. A shame consdering it was her innocence that appealed to me. I can't say I like any of the music I've heard from Jessica in the years since.

Quoting 'Jay_Me' Thanks everyone. Nice to see you getting behind our home grown talent.... Not. ? As I said is not the music I am into and certainly didn't need some half assed 15 seconds of fame TV show either. There is plenty of home grown stuff I love over the years Oils, Hunters, Ed Keupper, Silver chair, You am I, Sara Blasko, Howling Bells, Josh Pyke, Angus and Julia and the list goes on.

No wonder you think and say what you do.. ? Im talking about a professional artist that will still be around long after these people, groups.. are back in the pubs keeping this current generation of followers happy with what they do best... Im sure they are very good in their own right . But when you talk in terms of a name that may be a household name here and overseas.. Jess has what it takes...Kylie Minouge also started in a half assed show as you put it... ?

Has Jess been inducted into the ARIA hall of fame yet? Sounds like you've got your Jess blinkers on and safely say I will have to agree to disagree lol.Cheers,W.

I have this protective personality when I see someone as talented as Jess being linked in with the likes of Midnight Oil and others. In your case its a matter of a different taste in music.. We should be proud we have a young lady who came from such humble beginnings to where she is today. No one can tell me any of the mentioned have a vocal talent to compare... Its like comparing apples with oranges....

There is soo much homegrown talent in Australia. Personally Ive never heard of Jess, but as I dont listen to mainstream radio or watch reality shows then how would I. Ive seen quite a few of the artists you mentioned and they were absolutely freakin awesome.

Hey Jay, I see Jessica will be performing at the new Event Centre at The Star. Looks amazing... Views over the harbour and Sydney sky line. Perfect for a date! I am going to try and get tickets for Alicia Keys. :)

I don't think anyone is putting shit on her, its a case of different music tastes. Sheesh Jay-Me, you asked the question. Let people express their opinions without getting upset cos they don't agree.

For some reason, everytime I see this thread I think of Jessica Rabbit???.I saw the movie Jess is in recently, "The Sapphires". I really enjoyed it. It broke my heart though to see what authorities did to their family, ripping them apart as children, and the effect it had on the family over time. So wrong, glad they got their shit together in the end! xXx

I thoroughly enjoyed The Sapphires too. Excellent showcasing of Australian talent and great to highlight Aboriginal contribution to entertainment at a time when racism was so rampant. Someone mentioned the beautiful Deborah Mailman in a previous post. I saw a movie she's in "Radiance" on sbsondemand the other night. It was another enjoyable movie despite the sensitive topic matter.

Actually, far from being just 'pub' acts, most of the singers and bands that Araps mentioned have received much domestic and international recognition and have toured overseas extensively. You haven't heard of them because you're obviously not into that type of music, just like I could not tell you the name of one song by Jessica Mauboy because I'm not interested in that type of mainstream pop. It's pretty arrogant to assume that because you love Jessica and think she's the bees knees, that everyone has to agree with you, or that their preferences are somehow inferior.

I have seen her twice in her performance she is absolutly Brilliant with her massive Voice , there is a reason why she is everywhere of course on TV , Concerts and other Events , i mean besides being beautiful , with massive voice ,she has a great personality, down to earth and a definitely role model for young Generation , I think Jay_me you asking people on here about Jess as i can understand the answered you get will be very different due to age gap (older Gen.) and compared to if you asking those 12yo-35 yo you will definitely get very different answer to your question it would be more like me , i love her....in one of her Concert i went to, and to my surprised half of the Audience were Boys the age of 18 yo - 30 yo wasnt sure whether they were Gay Boys or what ? or she has became a Gay Icon as well like Kylie after all she is so Adorable, and accessable so i wouldnt be surprised at all , so Teah Jessica is Great she will be back in Brissy/QLD very soon for more Concerts .. but Hey Currently i am watching X-FACTOR and supporting Dami from Queensland she is definitely Unbelievable what a Voice /performance...i cant wait for my sunday evening just to watch them perform especially my girl Dami ..Come on Queensland let us win this one , i am sure she will the writing on the Wall is so Clear .
