I'm glad you qualified your question by saying 'some' women. I myself and the women friends I know certainly wouldn't behave this way. Even if a guy we absolutely don't find attractive approached us in a respectful way, we'd find the nicest possible excuse to not engage with him. It also doesn't take much to give a smile.
Unless you have some serious body odour issues, I would have to suggest that you're probably going to the wrong places to approach women (I'm assuming this 'mean girls' behaviour is happening at bars and clubs, as opposed to supermarkets and other public places where women often have other things on their mind than being chatted up).
If you're hitting the hippest clubs that attract what I deem as high maintenance women, then I guess what you described may be typical behaviour for them. They aren't likely to give you the time of day if it's clear to them that you don't drive the right car and live in the right suburb. Do you really want to be with a woman like that? I'd vacate the premises and find less shallow company.
I admit that some women do like to adopt a I'm-too-good-for-you persona just to make their potential suitor work that little bit harder to grab their attention. It's something I tend to associate with women who are low on self-esteem and need to make someone feel like crap before mercifully allowing them to buy them a drink and thereby elevating both parties' self-esteem. Meh...
Also, some women are socially inept and use death stares and the like to try and deter any contact with men they don't want to talk to. They aren't good at saying 'Thanks, but no thanks' so they'd rather play ice queen rather than deal with their own social shortcomings.
I don't really know where you're going to routinely come into contact with these types of women but they aren't going to make life easy for you even if you manage to crack their hard exterior. You can bet they will make you jump through hoops if they want to play games from the get go.
Spend some time online here at RedHotPie and see how you go. You're on neutral territory in that what you're wearing, driving and eating at a given time isn't going to matter to most women. Get your foot in the virtual door and come the first date, you won't need to worry about dealing with icy glares.
