Hey, guys. Can you tell me whether the added difficulties encountered by gay couples increase the odds of them splitting up or whether it makes them work harder to stay together? It is not mere curiosity which prompt me to ask. My daughter is in a long term lesbian relationship. I'm bisexual myself and fully supportive of her. Her partner is a lovely girl and we all get on great. I want my daughter to be happy
Gay relationships at the end of the day suffer all the same problems that straight ones do. And that is reflected in the ‘divorce’ rate of gay marriages which are statistically similar or perhaps slightly greater than the heterosexual world.

Being in an accepting community does not always have the positive effects you might think. There are many reports of adversity actually pushing people closer together. So whilst many of us try to protect the ones we love by keeping negative influences from them, a little adversity can bond people together.

At the end of the day relationships are about making an effort, learning to suspend our selfish urges and working for a greater good – gay or straight if you master this, love can flourish and a good relationship then becomes a beautiful side effect of less selfish living.
