With all the hoo-hah surrounding issues of polygamy at the moment, ideas of sexual and relationship exclusivity have come under the microscope. It’s time to break away from the traditional thoughts of polygamy and focus on the fun side of modern love. Besides, sausage roll hair do’s and prairie dresses are so 2006.

They say that variety is the spice of life, and in this world where we crave instant gratification, casual sex and friends with benefits (FWB) are aplenty. The 60s had their free-love, the 80s had Swingers and now we have Polyamory.

Polyamory is about sharing the love with more than one person. Kind of like a sexy spin on the ‘Pay It Forward’ phenomenon. You share some part of your life with more than one other person and your lovers share some part of their lives and love with more than one person. Rather than a F*** Buddy or a FWB, it’s more like filling the cups of emotional and physical fulfillment, as everyone involved is kept in the know about the situation you avoid that dreaded morning after walk of shame.

A recent online poll has found that 46% of people consider themselves polyamourous, while 31% stated that they have multiple sexual partners but not multiple relationships. Looks like everyone is catching onto the sexy lifestyle of multiple partners, even Scarlett Johansson, touted as the world’s sexiest woman, doesn’t believe we are monogamous by nature. (I bet she was on RedHotPie.com.au before Ryan Reynolds snapped her up though, saucy minx.)

It begs the question, are we supposed to receive physical, emotional and intellectual stimulation from just one significant other? Or are we just spoilt for choice?
