We all remember buying our first pride and joy. Some of us may have had something shiny and gleaming that just purred, or roared. Others may have had what their friends would have laughed at and called and rust bucket. But, nevertheless, we all remember our first car.
My first car was a 1965 Vauxhall Viva. This car was older than me and I called him Victor. Victor didn’t have seat belts in the back (when this car was made, they weren’t meant to go fast enough to require seat belts in the back and it wasn’t a legal requirement back then if the car wasn’t fitted with them when manufactured). Victor had a truck steering wheel. This meant that, as I’m fairly short, when most would look over the top of their steering wheel when driving, I would look through mine. The blinker light that showed up on the dash was a bright green light that flashed at you. Victor didn’t like going down from third to second gear and had these wings on the back, so my friends nicknamed it the batmobile. They also said the name Victor suited it well as the engine was a good size for a lawn mower.
Yes…….this was the car I would participate in drags with (unbeknown to my parents still to this day) except I only requested or accepted from boys who were out driving mum’s station wagon. I’m proud to say that I won most of them too.
So…….tell us about your first car.
Did the front seat of Victor go faster than the back seat?
First car, HQ sedan, nothing special, wrote it off in a rollover.
Cheers Felonious

Another great little post, wiccan ,
My first car was a little yellow 1973 Mazda 808 with a 'huge' 1297cc engine. Tiny car but did have a bit of guts in it (just not uphills, lol). Thinking back now, the best item in the car was the stereo I put in it, complete with graphic equaliser!!!!!
I have had a few cars since then (I was 19 at the time) but still llaugh to myself when I think of it.....................

... were on a pedal car. My dad painted it black so I could pretend to be Batman.
When I was 17, I bought a 1973 Ford Falcon GS Coupe. It was canary yellow. It was a limited edition six cylinder (Dad wouldn't let me have a V8 first up) with a two barrel carb and extractors from the factory. Before that, I drove my Mum's Mazda 808 wagon.
Don't get me started on the price of things back then. I worked as a checkout chic not long before I got my Vauxhaull. I remember celery being 15 cents a bunch and lettuce being 25 cents.
I also remember looking customers in the eye, smiling and, not only saying "hello" but also "how are you" and listening to the reply.
My first day on this job, the first words my supervisor said to me after introducing herself, she told me what was expected of my attitude towards customers, and to stress her point further, she looked down at me sternly (with glasses resting on the end of her nose) and said "Woolworths girls are NICE girls!"
Did a hatch open up in the floor when you went uphill so you could help it Flintstone style?

It's called "Zig!!", after the fictional spacecraft in the Zero Wing game that became an internet phenomenon with "All your base are belong to us."
It's a 97 Hyundai. And it's still going. Just. Nearing 300 000 kms disturbingly quickly and costing me $1 000 here, and $1 000 there...
Will be great to get something newer when I can afford it, I have my heart set on a Subaru.
But in the meantime: You know what you doing!! Take off every 'Zig'!! Move 'Zig'!! For great justice!!
Except when your going backwards...... ;)
