So, what's average, anyway?

Jul 10, 2012
brave__heart

I read on a man's profile that women should stop listing themselves as average when they're not even close to average. According to this man, average is 65kg. He specifically stated that 88kg is not average, basically saying it's way over average e.g. fat.

What do you think?

What's average for a woman?

From memory, 5'6" and size 14 (80-85kg?) is average.

Was he harsh in his view? Is his view what men really think but are too polite to say?

Curiouser and curiouser ...

Subjective

I'm 5'7" size 12, go to the gym almost every day but because athletic to me = lean muscle mass, and slim = skinny, average seemed like the best definition.

Well...

Our culture is getting more obese as the years go by, so 'average' is also getting bigger.

A 5'6"...  82.5kgs woman has a BMI of almost 30.  According to the BMI scale (merits can be endlessly argued), such a woman is overweight and heading to obese.

I tend to agree.

Average-Whats that?

What a goose. Whats average. What if the girl is 6" then if she weighs 65kg what is she compared to someone 5'6"& weighing 65kg. My idea of whats average is different to somebody else. It is what makes us human is that all of us are attracted to a range of body types. Its why we come in all shapes & sizes. So often we judge the wrapping rather than discover the real person. And as with a present its whats inside that is what we value. I know its a sex site but for me i have to gell with the person, have some chemistry, communicate & be attracted to them, the whole of them. He needs to list his definition of average & leave the rest of us to judge our "average " Not a great word to use to describe someone is it.

...

You know, he is wrong. 80-85 IS pretty much average (as of today, not 30-50 years ago).

Problem is, 80-85kg is also overweight and fat. In fact, at 5'6" you'd actually be classed as obese (BMI 30.2).

Average....

How often do we describe ourselves as average?  i do with certain things..if a guy is not 6 foot tall he is short..i consider myself as average height..

if a guys cock is not 8 inches plus its not big..if its a few inches its small..all else is average. makes me average..

now to the question at hand..

weight and size i think is relative to the person.

personally i would rather an " average" person than a high maintanence one if that makes sense ?

He's obviously....

at least the guy was honest i guess...although i wouldn't be telling anyone what to write in their profiles, it's none of his business.... and it's only harsh if you believe it to be true, or take it personally.... letting someone else determine how you feel is not taking responsibility for your own thoughts!
also, i wouldn't tell anyone their overweight... unless they asked. Then i would politely give them an honest opinion....

Average

When referencing weight "average" would probably be the most abused term in the dating world !

Without going into statistical definitions "average" is the middle ground and unfortunately that is now quite overweight for

both men and women.

At 65kg what he would be referring to is "ideal" or what I think of as "healthy".

While BMI is a shit measure...

...and as I've yet to figure out AU sizing, I wouldn't be able to tell without looking at your pictures.  After all, you could be a body builder.  After looking at your pictures, I'd say "a little extra padding" is accurate as you've got the sexy Botticellian thing going for you and I don't throw that term around lightly.  Is "a little extra padding" the first word I'd use to describe your body?  Fuck no.  "Curvy," "womanly," etc. come to mind, and few women of your height and weight can say that.  "Average" is selling yourself short.

Now is it fine that this d-bag criticised you for it?  No.

Does it really matter...

What you class yourself as?  If you have pics up (which, in my opinion everyone should have - whether public or private) Take a look, if you like what you see progress, if you don't move on!!  Simple, why does everything have to be rocket science...  with a profile like that I'm guessing it's not doing him any favours.

I am a little overweight

Hey I am working on it!

Step away from the cock chips ummm choc chips

Yes I am fatter than I would like to be, but working on it as in gym and trying not to eat a loaf of bread in one go.

I have had three back ops in three years and not able to ride a bike or horses but men are ok, so the doc said

Western society has a big problem, poor people have not much choice as the crap food is cheaper than good food.

Like the add says if you can grab a handfuls of your gut then do something about it and keep on it, before its to late.

People will not tell you to your face if your fat , you need to tell it to your self when you look in a mirror , its more about health than what you look like. Some women are lovely and luscious and so long as they are fit and healthy that’s fine

Its the skinny ones with fingers down throat that have a problem. And the stupid magazines and TV with airbrushed images , puts the lie to what is average.

Each person is attracted to different body types, depends on your linage to a degree what shape you are. But over weight is just that, to much food in the mouth and not enough exercise.

Next time you're out and about

...at the 'Mall' or whatever, look around you. If there are roughly as many women heavier than you as there are those who are thinner, that would make you average. I suspect the stroker you were talking to has a limited range of sizes that HE finds attractive. Women any thinner than example 'a' are too skinny, while women heavier than example 'b' are too fat and, to his mind, those in the middle are average. Just tell him he doesn't meet your criteria as he is of below average intelligence.

I'm average

I class myself as average .... I've been a lighter weight that I am now and I've been heavier .... bit of a yo-yo queen over the years oops!

I figure people can make their own assessment by looking at my photo whether or not they think I'm average in their opinion ...

BMI can be misleading by simply using weight and height. Just by using these numbers a lot of body builders would be considered overweight for their height .... Ummmm don't think anyone would think a bodybuilder was overweight (or even obese if they were built enough!!)

OOoohhhhh

Another pay out on the fatty thread. Gotta love those.

.

The wanker probably has a less than averaged sized penis and puts "large" on his profile. I am average ......for me! I have been bigger than I am now and I have been smaller. I fill out my jeans as well as I need to and if someone does not like me the way I am then they can piss off and find someone else.

It is that easy!

Really!
