Gay Marriage

Apr 15, 2011

Recently there have been a few rallies to demonstrate to the governments at a state and federal level that there is a need to change the law so that same sex couples have the same rights as current married couples.

It will be interesting to see RHP members stand on this issue. Results of canvassing the electrates in WA shows a majority of people are not for a change in the law.

Personally I stand in support of gay marriage.

everyone should be treated equally and have the same rights. just because you are born gay doesnt mean you should be discriminated against. and yes. i know a lot of people wont agree with me!

I couldn't agree more...it's definitely time we all took our heads out of our asses and let people live and love as they choose and let gays have the same rights as hetrosexuals.

Marriage by another word

I completely support equal rights to same sex couples in the eye of the law and I also think they should be able to have a celebration and declaration of their love.

I do wonder if we can't soften the blow to those poor religious types though and if they believe that the word "marriage" has some significant link to ye old religious ways then leave it to them.  We need to come up with another word, another celebratory union that holds all the same rights as that of marriage.

Then same sex couples can have their day. Hetero couples would get the added choice of getting "married" or getting "whateveritscalled"

Oh I've just realised this thought process could offend as I forgot that you can actually be gay AND believe in god...so no offense meant to those in that camp!

SO what do we call this new kind of union...should we have a competition to pick a name for it?

Oh Ok

Maybe a good way to draw attention to the general community about equality.

Everyone should have the same options to marry the one they love

yes I fully support gay marriage.  While I don't think I would ever want to marry anyone myself I think it is unfair for one group of our community to be denied this choice.  I know many lesbian couples who have been together for years and had children together but are unable to have their relationship legally recognised in the same way as straight couples.

Puppy, that is not equal at all! I would find it infect insulting...

Like a gay person isn't worthy of the same as a hetro couple, that's bullshit! I cannot believe how backwards society is, it offends me and I now too don't care much for marriage, but I do care very much for equality and choices for every member of society. I mean to say, same sex sex has been happening since the ancient Greek times, the animal kingdom Do it. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG here... I think religion is where all these obsurd rules came into play, sooo much judgement... It makes me sad (but maiy angry!)..

Curious now

Where is the discrimination in Law? What problems are being encounted?

Not peoples opinion or public reaction as this can be subjective where law can be based on fact....I think?

Boobs we're on the same side here

Booby baby, where did I say a gay person isn't worthy of the same as a hetero couple? All I'm saying is it may be easier to leave marriage with the religious connotations it has and have another more open celebration that has all that "marriage" has without the narrowmindedness. Again I don't see why any gay person would want to be a part of a religion that was so exclusive - but that's what all religions are - a club with defined exclusive rules - not my cup o tea at all. I for one separate religion and faith, believe in god if you like but don't believe in what an organisation lead by other men says your faith should be.
Sure I'd have a religion free society but that aint going to happen, my suggestion is an idea where we all might be able to have our cake and eat it too.
still offended?
