Out of curiosity what do you look for in a first message, as details should be on the profile.

something that shows

shows depth, intelligence and class. Something that reveals a little about him and shows he 'gets' something about me, from my profile. Not too many words, a paragraph or two is enough. Long, rambling, verbose messages cause me to roll my eyes. Equally, "0425xxxxxx call me, let's f*ck" tends not to work ;)

I find the use of LOL anywhere cringeworthy.

No template messages.
Make sure you've read the profile and are what she/they're looking for.

Can't tell you how many times I've asked someone "Why have you messaged me?"
They party hard and all night - smoke, are married, in another state and want casual sex with multiple partners.... Why have you messaged me?

Maybe drop the Peeps in a message...  Not cool.

I like, thoughtful well constructed messages that show the person has read my profile and has an interest in me.

I dislike,template messages,grunting on the page ,for example...wots happening..what are you doing...what are you into

or most recently...so stroke me...or I will be in Brisbane next week,want to meet?

It is the first message that captures the attention ,so it is the most importantx Hugs H

I find it easier to chat 1on1

Its hard to try and think what a lady whats to know.....some profiles send a message that the girls are looking for a quick sex fix..(which isnt a bad thing i spose:))....but to chat first and ask a few simple ??? does make it hell of a lot easier!!!

Sometimes it is a bit hard to be original, all that, and stand out when you can't afford to pay at this point in time.

I don't want to sound rude or harsh here, and I understand where you are coming from when you are asking for originality, and intelligence in a message. But my point I want make here is that we feel pressured into paying money we don't have by those statements. And...

I am not having a go at you, and I am trying to write this in the nicest possible way too. If I could message first I would as I put all my heart and soul into what I have to write when I am wanting to meet someone or when I am stating an opinion. But as a guest profile level we can't do that. We are limited to a small generic selection of flirts which are completely unoriginal and are what we are forced to rely on. In sending these flirts we hope that we would get a message back and then be able to start chatting and hopefully arrange to meet that said person.

But when we send a flirt it gets looked at or is ignored as most girls would prefer a message instead. So all in all I feel that if you are disliking flirts or template messages which could be counting as flirts too, you are forcing us into a situation where we aren't able to get something from someone unless the message first.

Finally, I will sum it up which is what the topic sentence says. And hope this makes sense, I am not having a go at anyone. It is just hard when flirts is all we have to rely on or the info in our profile to stand out and be original and get somewhere when we can't afford to pay.

I agree with Apollo, even a profile written in text speak from someone over 40 just screams of either laziness or someone trying to be 'hip' - and failing bad!

 

For me, the first message depends on why I am sending it.  It might be a compliment to a particular forum post I have seen, it might be to say thank you to someone who was polite in the chat room.  It might even be, back in the days when I thought I had a chance of meeting someone from here, a nice, polite, introductory message telling her something about myself and commenting on her profile (just to prove I actually read it and didn't look at the pretty pictures).

 

The few I have received, well some didn't deserve a reply although they got one, some were informative, and even one or two intrigued me enough to form a friendship,

Lost in translation.

keyboards never do thoughts and expression justice,written words never portray the intention enough and 2 paragraphs is never long enough.

Honest and inquisitive,thats what i like and thats what i try to be,trying to worry about much else and cover 2 many angles initially will more than likely spoil it in my humble opinion.

Hi Peeps?

Words like "peeps" = big turn off, ditto for text type, bad, bad, bad.

How about, read the profile "No single guys" means...... no single guys, so don't waste everyone's time.

Fake profiles are spotted from a mile away - you know the ones, guys acting as women or couples - very dumb.

Otherwise, be respectful.  Even a simple "hello" will do.
