Do you have a collection of....

Jul 03, 2012
...stuff?

Andy Partridge is the front man of supper cool 80 rock band XTC.  Way back when, during an interview said "By the age of 40, an Englishman has a collection of something or is considered gay.  I collect board games"..

Thank you Andy,  I have 247.
I also have more than 150 albums (real black vinyl).
The sweet lady I dated though 2010-11 had 98 Little snow men.

So fellow Bakers,  what is your collecting passion, assuming you're not gay?

And while I think of it, If you're Bi, do you have half a collection?

Wait...let me check...

nope not a man, not English, not 40 but yep! I have a collection of 'stuff'.

Mine is the Anchor Hocking / Fire King Peach Lustre Swirl/Shell Pattern (mostly, with a few select pieces of Laurel, Bubble and Harlequin thrown in)  1965-1976, dinner settings and cookware.

It has its own little corner of my lounge room and with 8 pieces having arrived today I am thinking I may need a larger display stand...hmmmmmm...

And though I am bi and missing a few pieces for the collection it is definately well on its way to be much more than half a collection.

Kisses

Focus

Cocks

I have a male friend over 40 who has a collection of cocks.

Have a feeling he still might be gay.

well... as a kid

... i had an awesome collection of lego and marbles, i've also lived in 185 different houses and 272 different suburb's whilst growing up... so, some lucky kids now own the above mentioned items, or there still unclaimed in the garden somewhere. As i grew older, lego and marbles turned to wine... but that didn't last long. Did you know 90% of people that buy wine drink it in the first week, i was hoping to be in the 10% that put it in their cellar.

I do have a nice collection of unopened boxes of basketball cards though... some around 25yrs old. I'll probably sell them one day and stock up that cellar

stuff

I have farrrr too much stuff.I think it breeds on shelves in boxes,in the garage, the shed.Twenty-two years ago when I first came to Queensland I arrived with two suit-cases,a golf umbrella and a six year old child.

That was so liberating.x  Hugs Hesione sans golf umbrella

After inheriting my great grandmothers,

Vintage furs.  Coats, jackets, stoles.  I keep some of them at home during winter but I store them at my furrier during summer.  Divine collection!!!!  And red wine.  Coodi, it is hard not to knock the top off a great red just because!  Easier to collect if the merchant does home visits.  You can really take your time in selecting.  I  have a lovely 2008 Merlot from the House of Pieroth starring at me right now!!

Motorcycle gear

Its either been bought or given to me but I require a garage to store it all in.... It's getting a bit silly really but then again, I still use everything except the gear that's classed as memorabilia....sadly, no cocks there though.

I have many

I collect children. They gravitate towards me, wander in off the street, get dropped off by parents and dont want to leave. Various government agencied bring them to me.

Hell some of them have parents that were kids I collected over the years, and now they drop thier own kids off for me to collect.

.

I collect memories. Good, bad, indifferent and each one uniquely mine.

.

Every evening I wander down my back yard and collect the eggs that my six gorgeous feathered girls have laid for me.

.

I collect depression glass. Like Lost Focus, mine is Anchor Hocking but I have forrest green and royal ruby. Mine comes from 1940's. Whole dinner sets, Amazing glasses, cute little square teacups.

My one weakness... books...

Well, I do have other weaknesses... men would be one of them...

But I seem to be collecting books, I love them. I love reading them, recommending them to my friends, rereading them, using them as decoration in my house. My books are arranged by colour rather than subject or author. It's quite a little obsession. I can't imagine getting a kindle or ebook reader, I love browsing bookstores and the tangible aspect of real books.

And somewhat sadly, I am contemplating selling my entire collection...

I am a horrendous (w)horder...

I get obsessed with my collections, and my possessions keep piling up and up. I can't have just one, I have to have the whole set. I've done all the usual geeky paraphernalia, but my latest obsession has been my most expensive to date: single malt whiskies. Talk about writing cheques that my arse can't cash! I worked out I've laid down a couple of grand over the past year on about 20 choice bottles. I've been collecting an impressive credit card debt to go with them, too. Now I really need to start collecting a higher income...

Friends

Who are my treasures. They store themselves , do not clutter up my house to much.

I have had more than enough stuff in my life, and no longer keep stuff around , even books I read and give away except for my art books

I love my kindle , its great to travel with.

Over the years I have given away my stuff, my girls have all my jewellery

My huge collection of books gone to friends or charity

I travel light now, stuff just holds you back in life.

just been to the USA with a guy who is a multi millionaire and has cars stacked in garages does not even drive them, except for his truck and one other , what a waste.

When so few have so much and so many have so little.
